Historically the heart of Maui, Lahaina has suffered devastating losses from the fires and it is best to give this area time to heal.

South of Lahaina, the highway hugs the Maui landscape while offering views of the aqua water below and in the winter season whales playing in the bay.

This area offers excellent summer surfing conditions and long stretches of picture perfect beaches.

North of Lahaina lies the upscale resorts of Kaanapali, with over 3 miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters right out of a magazine.

With a long oceanfront beach-walk, and divided by the rocky outcropping and cliff jumpers at Black Rock, Kaanapali Beach is often voted as one of the best beaches in the world.

Past Kaanapali to the north are the more subdued areas of Honokawai and Napili, followed by the pristine waters of Kapalua Bay and the Kapalua resorts.

Here high end accommodations like the Montage and Ritz Carlton combine with luxury golf courses and bay-view residences. World famous courses frequented by the PGA tour include the Bay Course and the Plantation Course, which should be on any golf fans bucket list.
